On the Mend

I'm back home in Michigan after spending some much needed time in Illinois with my family.
It was really important for me to see for myself that my dad will be okay.
He continues to improve each day, and I'm so thankful.
Tomorrow I'm jumping back into the daily grind which I'm not exactly looking forward to...
but, such is life.

Last night the mister and I, along with Tanner and Amanda, saw Godspeed You! Black Emperor in Chicago.
We bought tickets for the show like six months ago, and over the course of those months the excitement (for me) wore off.
That combined with my recent unexpected trip home made me rethink attending, but I'm really glad I decided to go.
It was an ahhmazing live show.
The continuous flow of music and video feed made for a trance-like experience.
That's the only way I can think to describe it.
I would definitely recommend seeing them live if you get a chance.

Daytripper

On Friday, my mom, cousin, the mister and I decided to take a little trip to the beach.
It was such a beautiful, sunny day. But freezing.
Like really cold and windy. To be expected I suppose.
I also may have been a little inappropriately dressed in my skirt and tights, but again, to be expected.
It was a fun adventure, and I'm looking forward to spending lots of time at the lake this summer.

Now it's Sunday, and my mom and cousin have gone home.
Today is rough.
I wish with all my being that I had gone home with them.
Yesterday my dad was in a motorcycle accident.
He will be fine. Or so I've been told.
He has a few broken ribs, some road rash and a partially collapsed lung.
It's times like these that I really hate being so far away from my family.
I'm hoping to take some time off work and head home this week, but I'm not sure if I can yet.
Sorry to unload here and end on an unhappy note.
But I guess not all days can be cupcakes and laughter.

Smiles & Sweets

Just wanted to stop in for a quick little post.
I've been having tons of fun with my mama visiting this week.
We've been laughing lots, thrifting more, and eating plenty of cupcakes.
It will be a sad day when she has to go home.

Not sure what's up with my outfits lately, but I've been wearing blue pretty much every day.
Oh yeah, and the red flats. Which I love.
Bye for now!

Proceed with Caution

Woohoo!
I finally managed to take some more outfit pictures.
I thrifted this navy polka dot skirt last week thinking it would be perfect for spring.
But then I got too excited to wait- so here it is.
I wasn't really sure what to wear with the skirt, so I kinda just threw on this vintage blouse and some flats.
My outfit ended up having a primary color scheme, and I'm okay with it.
Also- notice the vintage hat?!
My parents picked up about a dozen vintage hats for me at an auction a while back,
and my dad brought them all to me last time he visited.
They have been sitting around the house for a bit now, so I thought today was a good day to test one out.
I pretty much love the navy bow hat paired with the navy polka dot skirt.
Thoughts? Too matchy?

Hey guess what? My mama is here visiting!
The mister and I picked her up from the train station last night when I got off work.
And she gets to stay for a whole week!
My cousin, Kelsey, is also coming to visit for a few days later this week.
I'm so excited! I love having visitors.
Ok well it's time to hang with the mamajama before bedtime.
Night all and happy weekending.

Bam!

Okay, so this may not be the greatest picture I've ever taken, but I wanted to show off my new look!
Woot woot I have bangs!
This is a pretty exciting change for me as I've always had the same straight boring blah hair.
I needed a trim this past week and had been contemplating bangs but didn't think they would work because of my awful cowlick.
Anyway- I sort of let the stylist take over and do what she thought would look good...
and voila!
I got an inch or two cut off, some long layers and texture, shaping around my face and bangs.
I kind of love it.
A little more upkeep than I'm used to dealing with, but so far so good.
I'll post better pictures soon.

Sorry I've been so absent this past week.
The sickness floating around finally made it's way to me, and I'm just starting to feel better today.
My friend, Amanda, and I got sick at the same time,
so we've been hanging out and keeping each other company.
Not like we can get each other sick or anything.
:)

Tonight I'm playing catch up and reading blogs like mad.
It's crazy how much you can miss in one week.
Hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend!
