Once in a While

I've been a terrible blogger once again.
It's not that I haven't had time to blog, I guess I've just been distracted and bored and grumpy lately.
(just missing my mister while he's in England most likely)
And with it being the holidays, well you may as well call me Scrooge.
I've done very little decorating or gift shopping. I'm just not into 'it' this year I suppose.
Not into 'it' really meaning the consumerist nonsense.
I know that there is more to Christmas than presents, but it's really bothering me this year.
It's not that I don't enjoy giving gifts. I do. I don't know what it is exactly.
I'm still fumbling trying to figure it out.
All I know is that this year I am focusing all my holiday spirit on spending time with family, eating good food, celebrating my mom's graduation, and relaxing before I start back to school.
Sound good? :)

Moving on...
The pictures above are a few funny things I came across while thrifting today.
I originally went thrifting in hopes of finding cheap craft supplies.
(I'm making the decorations for my mom's graduation party)
Didn't have much luck on that front, but did find a few things that made me smirk.
I actually bought the little "This is my house and I do as I darn please" sign.
It reminds me of something my dad would say.
I did not, however, buy the "boob job fund" jar ;)

Well I'm off to listen to the Bright Eyes Christmas album for a little holiday pick-me-up.
Night loves.

Why I Thrift

Can we all pause for a moment of silence in honor of the person that gave this beauty up so that I might find it.
Just last night I started making a list of 'ultimate thrift finds'...
basically things I would lovvvve to find and that I would be willing to pay a bit more for.
A chair just like this was on that list, I kid you not!
Well hey howdy, today was the day.
And for eight dollars nonetheless.
Yes, you read that right. I paid a measly EIGHT effing dollars for this amazing chair.
This is why I love thrifting.

Any other amazing finds out there lately?
If so, please share!

Thrifts & Gifts

Let's just say lately I have been a very lucky lady.
Last week I finally got a chance to go home and see family after what seemed like months.
Oh wait, it was months...three to be exact ;)
Anywho, my parents (dad, really) and my aunt had been busy the past few weeks going to auctions and picking up treasures, many of which are now mine, and a few of which are pictured above.
It's always fun, and quite often interesting, to see what they've found.
This time around I had the pleasure of finding a boob mug hidden within my box of owl items.
Of course my dad thought that was just hilarious.
Yes, I have pictures. No, I won't be posting them.
But really, they do always find the greatest stuff at auctions.
Thanks to mom, pops & aunt sis, I always end up hauling home a car full of amazing loot.

Have you been gifted or thrifted anything awesome lately?

Such a Pretty House, Such a Pretty Garden

Sorry for the silence around here.
I've been fighting a nasty cold/sinus infection thing for the past week or so.
Ehh, I guess it's that time of year.

On to the failed outfit attempt...
I thrifted this velvet leopard print dress a few weeks ago for a mere three dollars.
Exciting, no?
Then, a couple weeks ago, I wore it for the first time.
It wasn't as exciting anymore.
Maybe velvet isn't my thing. Or maybe I don't know how to style it. Who knows.
I wanted to share these photos anyways because of the gorgeous gardens and fall foliage also pictured.
Enjoy!

P.S. Is anyone else trying super hard to get pre-sale Radiohead tickets today?! We are, so wish us luck :)
P.P.S. Etsy shop is progressing. Hoping to have my first items listed by this weekend!!!

Thrift Finds

Here are a few recent thrift finds.
And by recent, I mean I found all these goods two nights ago.
Up until then I was starting to feel like I'd depleted this town's thrifting resources and/or just plain ran out of luck.
Guess not. Not yet, at least.
I don't know how I'm going to decide what to sell in my etsy shop as I'm sort of in love with everything I buy.
Hmm. Any tips?

Well I'm off to drink wine and relax the rest of the evening.

P.S. I'm going to see Frontier Ruckus tomorrow night! I cannot wait. They're an amazing local band. Have you heard of them? If not, here ya go. You're welcome :)

End of a Season

Today the mister and I attended the last local flea market of the season.
Sadness.
Somehow I've managed to get thrifting on the agenda every free weekend we've had lately, but I'm guessing it won't last much longer.
Anywho, all the finds pictured above were picked up over the past few days.

Bag of vintage plastic clothespins- $4.00
Seafoam green purse- $0.99
Antique embroidery- $1.99
1920's books- $5.00
Recipe box- $2.00
Flower clutch- $0.99
Amish butterprint Pyrex dish- $1.99

I'm expediting the opening of my Etsy shop due to the fact that I'll be starting grad school in January!
I am hoping to get everything up and running smoothly way before I have too much on my plate to handle.
It's been a little stressful getting started, but I cannot wait to open up shop!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

D.I.Y. Coffee Table Makeover

^^^^^^^^^Before & During^^^^^^^^^
^^^^^^^^^After^^^^^^^^^
Eeep! I'm so excited to share a second D.I.Y. here on the blog!
This is another super simple, quick and cheap makeover.
We bought this coffee table for $10 at the local Bargain Barn (same place the $3 cart from the last DIY was found).
It was in obvious need of a little work but had much potential.
I'd been on the lookout for a coffee table for some time and was initially set on finding a mid-century style.
I scoured the thrift stores to absolutely no avail, and all the beauties I found online were way more than I was willing to pay.
So when I found the one above, I was sort of settling.
It wasn't what I was looking for at all, but the price was right.
I knew we could fix it up, and I thought maybe we would hold onto it until I found a better one.
Now that it's finished though, I really love it!
It's a definite keeper.

Supplies needed (or what we used):
Screwdriver
Sandpaper & Electric drill
Paintbrush
Chalkboard paint

First we popped the ugly, cracked mirror off, then sanded down the top of the table.
We left the rest of the table in slight disrepair (i.e. chips and cracks) for a more shabby chic look. Well that, or we were just too lazy to sand the whole thing. Hah.
A couple coats of chalkboard paint later, and voila! You've got yourself a nice lookin' little coffee table.
See? Super simple and cheap! Just how I like it.
:)

Disclaimer: These makeover projects can become highly addictive.
The mister and I are on a roll lately! Be looking out for more regularly scheduled DIYs here on the blog!

Weekend Recap

Oops, a few days late for a weekend recap, but I wanted to share anyhow.
The mister and I love taking road trips, and I really love thrifting as we all know.
So frequently I can con him into taking me out of town on the weekends for some treasure hunting.
Not only do I get to scour all the local thrift stores, but we also get a chance to check out more of Michigan.
You see, it's perfect!

Anyway, this past weekend was sort of a bust, and I'm fairly certain the mister is to blame...
He totally jinxed us by predicting we were going to find some great stuff that day.
He 'had a good feeling'..PSHH!
Hah, but really, the area was pretty disappointing on the thrifting front.
We found one neat flea market (where we picked up a few treasures) and a cute little restaurant, so I guess it wasn't a total loss.
Still, probably not going back anytime soon.
That's the thing about thrifting though, some days are hits and others misses.
The adventure is what it's all about.

Coffee table makeover post coming Thursday!

Sunday Pickin'

Last Sunday the mister and I went pickin' around town.
Here are a few of our finds.

Coffee table- $10.00
Wall bottle opener- $2.00
Daisy Cinderella Pyrex- $4.99
Spool wooden bed frame- $10.01
Children's chalkboard- $0.99
White wooden frame- $0.99

Generally when I'm thrifting I try to only pick up things that fit with/in our current space, but
I've recently decided not to pass up a good find when I see one even if I don't have the exact place for it at this time. Does that make sense? Or am I a total hoarder? :/
Anyway, the spooled wooden bed frame is one such find.
At $10.00 how could I not buy it?
It will eventually be the guest bed frame which at this time is being occupied by my brother.
The coffee table, on the other hand, was bought with intent to makeover and use.
It's now sitting pretty in front of my fireplace.
Makeover pictures coming soon!

Happy Sunday!
