D.I.Y. Felt Hairbow

Last night I was feeling a little crafty, so I headed to JoAnn to look around.
(Terrible idea, by the way. 4-5 days before Halloween, yeah...the line was at least 40 people long!)
Anywho I picked up a couple pieces of colorful felt not really knowing what I wanted to make.
When I got home, I just sort of sat down and free-handed this project.
About half way through I decided I better start taking some pictures so I could blog it.
It was a super quick and easy project that took little to no skill. Perfect, yeah?!

Here are the steps:
1. Cut out the bow shape you want from the felt sheet/s ( I made mine reversible)
2. Glue the two felt pieces together
3. Next stitch them together (I did a basic straight stitch)
4. Take a scrap piece of felt and tie it around the center of the bow.
5. Attach the bow to a hair clip (I used an old one I had laying around)

Voila! You have your very own felt hairbow!
It was such a quick project that I made a few more in varying shapes, sizes and colors.
I wore the yellow & gray one to work today and plan on wearing them way too often.
Let me know if you try this project!

holiday Prep

Phew, much needed blog update! I was away for almost two weeks and didn't have much internet access. Now I'm back but only for a few more days, then I'm off to Chicago for five days. Aaron is attending a conference in the city, and I'm tagging along and spending some time with my cousins Tanner & Amanda. It should be a fun time! While I was away all I could think about was wanting to decorate for the holidays when I got back. So yesterday, December 1st, I decided to put up the Christmas tree! It snowed here in MI all day which really put me in the holiday mood. I also may have been rockin' out to some Christmas records. :) I have a lot more decorating to do, but the above pictures are just a little glimpse at what I've started. I crocheted an enormously long strand of garland for the tree which turned out really well. And as one can see from the last picture, the cat has not left the tree alone at all since it's been up! Ugh, I don't really know what to do about that. Any suggestions? Once the tree is fully decorated I'll post more pictures; it's pretty bare bones right now. Also, I've got some other holiday crafts in the works like handmade ornaments and Christmas cards that I can't wait to share. I'm going to try and update the blog while I'm in Chicago as I plan to document Amanda and I's exciting adventures.

Side note: I did some serious thrifting while I was away spanning multiple cities. I will take pictures of my finds and post them soon!

card i made for my bff's wedding...

It's been a while since I've written and a lot has happened! It looks as though we will be moving to Michigan soon! A got a job at Michigan State, so we are going up for a visit this weekend to look at places. And by places, I mean houses. No more apartments, duplexes or townhomes...I want a house. Buying a house would be ideal, but seeing as how we have no money saved, renting is our only option for now. That's ok. :) My man got a job! I'm so proud of him. It's kind of scary to think we will actually be semi-stable for at least 3 years. I didn't think it would happen this soon. On another note, my cousin J has been visiting this week. We've been having some fun shopping and eating out and watching lotsa movies. Mary Tyler Moore is our current favorite show to watch. I think we are gonna go see a movie tonight, and then he is leaving tomorrow. I haven't really had much thrifting time this past week, so I'm hoping to get some time in this weekend in Michigan. New places!! So exciting! Ok well that's it for now.

homemade birthday cards...

Well, I've been drinking a little wine and making cards tonight with the mother-in-law (maybe more than a little wine), and we just got back from a late night walk. Now we are having a late night snack comprised of spinach and artichoke hummus, cracked pepper crackers, goat cheese and summer sausage (for the boys). YUm Yum. Miss Maggie is begging for some sausage, but instead she got a tasty little peanut butter doggie treat. The boys are hogging the TV playing Xbox, while us gals are waiting to gain control of the situation and watch Taxi Driver. I scored some good finds today at Trader Buck's, and A is thinking of renting a booth to sell some of our stuff. He has a lot of music equipment he is trying to sell online right now, but no one seems to be interested. Tomorrow there is a huge flea market at the fairgrounds that I plan on attending. It's only held the first Sunday of the month, and since we are only here for the summer months, I figure I better check it out. Now, I'm not exactly an early bird, so we will see how this goes, but I am going to try my best to be up at 7 so I can get there early and get some good stuff. My ma and pa are getting a new little sweet puppy in a month or so and I can't wait to meet the little booger. Miss Maggie is going to be so happy to have a new playmate (although she will be quite jealous for a while). So, the Tom Petty concert is in 20 days! I can't wait; Ash is going to have such an awesome bachelorette party! Milwaukee here we come! Ugh, my phone is such a pile; it died again today while I was in the middle of a call. Seriously, it makes me question why I ever even got a fancy schmancy cell phone. Why didn't we all just stick with land lines? Ok, well I suppose it's movie time now...so more tomorrow! linz
